The Pope and SUNDAY LAW

2nd Thessalonians 2:3-4
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
Popery is just what prophecy declared that she would be,-- the apostasy of the latter times. It is a part of her policy to assume the character which will best accomplish her purpose; but beneath the variable appearance of the chameleon, she conceals the invariable venom of the serpent. "We are not bound to keep faith and promises to heretics," she declares. Shall this power, whose record for a thousand years is written in the blood of the saints, be now acknowledged as a part of the church of Christ? {BEcho, February 1, 1887 par. 9} {4SP 388.1}
"Every cardinal, archbishop, and bishop in the Catholic Church takes an oath of allegiance to the pope, in which occur the following words: 'Heretics, schismatics, and rebels to our said lord (the pope), or his aforesaid successors, I will to my utmost persecute and oppose.'"-- Josiah Strong, Our Country, ch. 5, pars. 2-4. [SEE APPENDIX .] Great Controversy, page 565.2

The United States is the power represented by the beast with lamblike horns, and . . . this prophecy will be fulfilled when the United States shall enforce Sunday observance, which Rome claims as the special acknowledgment of her supremacy. But in this homage to Papacy the United States will not be alone. The influence of Rome in the countries that once acknowledged her dominion, is still far from being destroyed. And prophecy foretells a restoration of her power. "I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast." Rev. 13:3. {A Faith to Live by, (FLB) page 329.3}
When our nation shall so abjure the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law, Protestantism will in this act join hands with popery; it will be nothing else than giving life to the tyranny which has long been eagerly watching its opportunity to spring again into active despotism. -- Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 712. {ChS 160.3}6

Romanists declare that "the observance of Sunday by the Protestants is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the [Catholic] Church."-- Mgr. Segur, Plain Talk About the Protestantism of Today, page 213.
The enforcement of Sundaykeeping on the part of Protestant churches is an enforcement of the worship of the papacy--of the beast. Those who, understanding the claims of the fourth commandment, choose to observe the false instead of the true Sabbath are thereby paying homage to that power by which alone it is commanded. But in the very act of enforcing a religious duty by secular power, the churches would themselves form an image to the beast; hence the enforcement of Sundaykeeping in the United States would be an enforcement of the worship of the beast and his image. {Great Controversy, page 448.3}
A time is coming when the law of God is, in a special sense, to be made void in our land. The rulers of our nation will, by legislative enactments, enforce the Sunday law, and thus God’s people be brought into great peril. When our nation, in its legislative councils, shall enact laws to bind the consciences of men in regard to their religious privileges, enforcing Sunday observance, and bringing oppressive power to bear against those who keep the seventh-day Sabbath, the law of God will, to all intents and purposes, be made void in our land; and national apostasy will be followed by national ruin. We see that those who are now keeping the commandments of God need to bestir themselves, that they may obtain the special help which God alone can give them. They should work more earnestly to delay as long as possible the threatened calamity.

If, in our land of boasted freedom, a Protestant government should sacrifice every principle which enters into its Constitution, and propagate papal falsehood and delusion, well may we plead, “It is time for thee, Lord, to work, for they have made void thy law.” Some may think that because it has been revealed in prophecy that our nation shall restrict the consciences of men, it must surely come; and that if we make an effort to preserve our liberty, we shall be acting the part of unfaithful servants, and thus come under the condemnation of God. { RH December 18, 1888, par. 6 }

Marvelous in her shrewdness and cunning is the Roman Catholic Church. She presents a fair front to the world, covering with apologies her record of horrible cruelties, and declaring that her spirit of persecution no longer exists. But she is the same as in the days of the Reformation, when men of God stood up at the peril of their lives to expose her iniquity; the same as when she assumed the power to control kings and princes, and claimed the prerogatives of God. She may clothe herself in Christlike garments, the better to carry forward her purposes; but she still retains the venom of the serpent, and her principles are exerting their influence in legislative halls, in churches, and in the hearts of men. Her spirit is no less cruel and despotic now than when it crushed out human liberty, and slew the saints of the Most High. {ST, November 8, 1899 par. 4}

The dignitaries of church and state will unite to bribe, persuade, or compel all classes to honor the Sunday. The lack of divine authority will be supplied by oppressive enactments. Political corruption is destroying love of justice and regard for truth; and even in free America, rulers and legislators, in order to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance. Liberty of conscience, which has cost so great a sacrifice, will no longer be respected. Revelation 12:17. Great Controversy, page 592.3
And then the great deceiver will persuade men that those who serve God are causing these evils....It will be declared that men are offending God by the violation of the Sunday sabbath; that this sin has brought calamities which will not cease until Sunday observance shall be strictly enforced; and that those who present the claims of the fourth commandment, thus destroying reverence for Sunday, are troublers of the people, preventing their restoration to divine favor and temporal prosperity. {Great Controversy, page 590.1}

“As we work with all our might, our trust must be in God. Sooner or later Sunday laws will be passed. But there is much for God’s servants to do to warn the people. This work has been greatly retarded by their having to wait and stand against the devisings of Satan, which have been striving to find a place in our work. We are years behind. { RH February 16, 1905, par. 4 }
It is at the time of the national apostasy, when, acting on the policy of Satan, the rulers of the land will rank themselves on the side of the man of sin — it is then the measure of guilt is full; the national apostasy is the signal for national ruin. { GCDB April 13, 1891, par. 22 }
The prophetic declaration that the Papacy was to exalt itself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped, has been strikingly fulfilled in the changing of the Sabbath from the seventh to the first day of the week. Wherever the papal Sabbath is honored in preference to the Sabbath of God, there the man of sin is exalted above the Creator of heaven and earth. {Signs of the Times (ST), November 1, 1899 par. 12}

The first Sunday law in America, that of Virginia, in 1610, required church attendance, and prescribed the death penalty for the third offence. See "American State Papers," edition 1911, page 33.
"Every man and woman shall repair in the morning to the divine service and sermons preached upon the Sabbath day, and in the afternoon to divine service, and catechising, upon pain for the first fault to lose their provision and the allowance for the whole week following; for the second, to lose the said allowance and also be whipt; and for the third to suffer death."
SUNDAY LAW EXPOSED
"To secure such an amendment to the Constitution of the United States as shall . . . indicate that this is a Christian nation, and place all the Christian laws, institutions, and usages of the government on an undeniable legal basis in the fundamental law of the land."- Article II of the Constitution. - by the National Reform Association?

"Our work is to make America Catholic. . . . Our cry shall be, 'God wills it,' and our hearts shall leap with crusader enthusiasm."
Archbishop Ireland, in a sermon at the centenary of the establishment of the Roman Catholic hierarchy in the United States, in 1889.

The Image of the Papacy
"First and foremost, it is the duty of all Catholics worthy of the name and wishful to be known as most loving children of the church . . . to endeavor to bring back all civil society to the pattern and form of Christianity which we have described." -
Encyclical of Pope Leo XIII, "Immortale Dei," November 1, 1885, "The Great Encyclical Letters of Leo XIII," page 132.

The Heritage Foundation, an advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C., aims to legally establish a "uniform day of rest," which raises important questions regarding religious freedom in the United States. The Heritage Foundation's document, titled “Saving America by Saving the Family,” encourages states and local municipalities to restrict commercial activities on Sundays to foster spiritual engagement and ensure that workers have a designated day of rest.
However, implementing restrictions on Sunday commerce presents significant practical challenges, especially for individuals belonging to faith traditions that do not observe Sunday as a day of worship. These proposed Sunday laws may conflict with the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which protects the religious freedom of all Americans by mandating government neutrality among various religious beliefs.

[ REPUBLIC ACT NO. 946, June 20, 1953 ]
AN ACT TO PROHIBIT LABOR ON SUNDAY, CHRISTMAS DAY, NEW YEAR'S DAY, HOLY THURSDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled: (H. No. 2855 / 49 OG No. 9, 3787 (September, 1953) This Act shall take effect ninety days after its approval. Approved, June 20, 1953.
Germany, Austria, and Poland set the standard in Europe with some of the most rigorous Sunday closing laws, backed by federal regulations that emphasize the importance of rest and family time. On the other hand, nations like France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Norway strike a commendable balance in their restrictions, honoring traditional values while supporting modern needs. Notably, both the United States and the United Kingdom still observe "blue laws," which limit Sunday commerce to uphold the sanctity of this day.
On the Pacific front, Tonga stands out with a remarkable commitment to constitutional Sunday observance since 1875, while Samoa reinforces Sunday rest through community councils, showcasing a widespread cultural dedication. Nevertheless, those who observe the Sabbath encounter significant difficulties in many regions. In Eritrea, for example, only four faiths are legally recognized, and serious risks await those who choose to honor their Sabbath.
